Weekly Wrap-Up 6-18-18

It’s my favorite time of the year, I have been on the road just putting miles on the bike and taking stops to sketch. For the month of May I managed to do something for Mermay, a couple of NBA illustrations and of course one for the monthly character design challenge. Some days I want to do thick inker lines and the next day loose pencil styled designs. It’s still hard to decide what “style” I actually am.

I got around to uploading a couple of older illustrations that I did last month. On May the fourth aka Star Wars day I did a quick Luke illustration. One of my fav. music videos in quite sometime is Childish Gambino’s – This is America the afternoon after watching it I stayed up into the early AM to draw it. Besides that here are a couple of lunchtime pencil sketches in my work sketchbook.

Getting back to posting again, mostly just smaller night time drawings. I have been doing a lot of digital blue pencil layouts and very few completed drawings.

Weekly Wrap-Up 3-26-18

Finishing up a couple of outside projects so I haven’t been filling up the sketch pile lately. At least with the last batch of snow storms I have been able to do some fun weekday AM model reference drawings.

Weekly Wrap-Up 3-12-18

I had a lot of fun with last months character design topic: Alice In Wonderland. I did a couple funky designs, went back and fleshed the two I liked the most out with color. Besides that always trying to get the right workflow out for larger scale designs.

Weekly Wrap-Up 2-26-18

Lately I have been all over the place in terms of styles. When I start with a blank screen it either ends up being cartoony or a realistic style. I haven’t been keeping up the Olympics but some of the photos and stories in my newsfeed have been interesting to read up on. Of course I had to do a couple of Black Panther drawings. I need to pick-up the art book at some point.

At work during lunchtime I started filling up an old unused sketchbook. It’s an interesting practice the pages are thick and can take tons of abuse with an eraser. At first I tried using ink pens but the paper sucks the ink too easily a mechanical pencil and a couple 2b’s with a rough tip do the trick.

Weekly Wrap-Up 2-11-18

Clip Studio on iPad has a pretty extensive brush set but I haven’t spent much time with their pencils. It’s very intuitive to use the pencils really have a rough look to them. I have been doing a few model studies to give a very natural media look to the illustrations.

Of course I did this months character design topic: motorcycle. The funny thing is all month I did a few rough sticky note character sketches and a few days before the deadline came up with a new concept and finished it all the same night.

Weekly Wrap-Up 1-28-18

The last two weeks I have been doing quick nightly sketches on the iPad. I still need to start my character design challenge for this month plenty of time left before the month ends haha. I received a couple of request for small avatar illustrations besides that I need to get back to ink on paper very soon, it’s been a while.

Weekly Wrap-Up 1-14-18

Glad to get my physical art book this week from Lulu.com. It’s 56 pages full color with a hardbound design. Besides that I have been going back to Procreate lately the pencil tool feels much better since the last round of updates. I still prefer Clip Studio but it’s fun to record my drawing session.
